I have many ambivalent feeling about this camera, so many in fact that I have bought and sold this camera three times. It has a special place in my heart as some of my favourite 35mm photographs were taken with the Konica Hexar AF on a trip to New York. While it is considered a point and shoot, it is about the size of a Leica M3 with a Summicron 35mm lens on it. Thus while it is larger than a typical P&S it also has more capabilities. It is very programmable for selecting f stops, shutter speeds, program modes, and it has the famous totally silent mode for stealth shooting. The lens is truly phenomenal, a fast Konica 35mm f2 that is a great focal length for street photography. The lens has a built in hood and filter ring, something most other P&S cameras lack and is a bonus for black and white photography. The auto-focus is very reliable and uses infrared, which means that you can auto-focus in near complete darkness! The only downside is its size. It is not something that you can put in your pocket, so the question becomes, if I have to carry a camera this size do I want to carry a Konica Hexar AF or a Leica M3? Nevertheless, if I were to choose to own only one film camera and one lens, this would be the one I would choose. Purchase Konica Hexar AF here.
